CAPIC Weatherization

What is weatherization?

The CAPIC Weatherization Program provides energy conservation measures to make the home more energy efficient year round. The process begins with an energy audit. All work is performed by experienced contractors who are fully certified and insured. Weatherizing your home will dramatically increase the level of comfort in your home while lowering your heating costs by 25 to 30 percent.

Who is eligible to participate?

Applications have to meet the same income eligibility criteria set forth in the Fuel Assistance Program. Applicants must live in Chelsea, Revere, Winthrop, Melrose or Wakefield to be eligible. The documentation required to apply is the same as what is required to apply for the Fuel Assistance Program. Applications are accepted throughout the year. Clients are prioritized based on elderly, handicapped, families with children six years and younger and households with high energy usage.

What is done during the weatherization process?

Conservation work may include the following measures: weather stripping, air sealing, insulation of attic and/or walls, replacement windows, heating system maintenance as well as health and saftey checks.

How much does it cost?

All weatherization programs are provided at no cost to income eligible homeowners and tenants. Anyone in a household receiving TAFDC or SSI benefits is automatically eligible.
